I was comfortable with creating this second technology lesson plan using the ASSURE model. However, this lesson plan was a very difficult for me to complete because it was due on a week in which I was unmotivated and pessimistic. We had to use three or more different kinds of technology and I enjoyed exploring each one. I also enjoyed creating an evaluation rubric that aligned to the objectives I created. Overall, I had a difficult time starting this lesson plan, but I enjoyed exploring the different kinds of technology.
No matter how easy it was to use the ASSURE model format, I was dragging my feet through the entire process. I disliked that the assignment was due the week that other major assignments were due for my other classes and I was feeling overwhelmed. The end of the semester was closing in and I had homework piled high, not to mention that this semester is the most difficult semester that I have had so far. Through the entire lesson planning process, from creating the objectives to making my evaluation rubric, I was most motivated by www.animoto.com.
As part of the assignment, I had the students use three different kinds of technology. I choose to use a digital camera, www.animoto.com, and www.blogger.com. Because I used technology, I fulfilled the second National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Teachers (NETS*T). The second NETS*T reads: “Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers” (“NETS for Teachers”, 2008). The tool I enjoyed the most was www.animoto.com for its really cute video effects. I was disappointed that you could only make a 30 second video, but I still think it is a really useful tool for the classroom. I not only plan on using the tool in my classroom, I also think that I would make personal videos using the tool.
Although I am taking Evaluation and have taken other elementary methods courses, I just learned to create a rubric with this lesson plan. I did an online search and came upon a webpage that helped me create an analytic rubric in which “teachers assess how well students meet a criterion on a task, distinguishing between work that effectively meets the criterion and work that does not meet it” (Muller, 2010). I thoroughly enjoyed creating the rubric and am glad that I now have the skills and resources to do so. Also, the rubric allowed me to evaluate the objectives that I set out to teach in the lesson plan.
Creating this multimedia lesson plan was a rewarding and challenging experience. I was overwhelmed and bombarded by assignments, tests, and projects that made it difficult to concentrate on this lesson plan, making it challenging. But it was rewarding because I was able to discover www.animoto.com and it brightened my day and helped motivate me. Creating a rubric was also a rewarding experience and now I can use it in my future methods courses and eventually when I become an educator. Despite all of the setbacks of this assignment, I feel that it was a success because I now have a much greater knowledge of the ASSURE format, ways to create a video, and ways to create a rubric.
